Poland has established itself as a central logistics and tourism hub in Central Europe. Air traffic is primarily managed by Warsaw Chopin Airport (WAW) and Modlin Airport (WMI), with strategic expansions focused on the future "Centralny Port Komunikacyjny" (CPK). The sector is regulated by the Civil Aviation Authority of Poland (Urząd Lotnictwa Cywilnego - ULC), which operates in close compliance with EASA (European Union Aviation Safety Agency) guidelines. Poland strictly adheres to the Polish Aviation Law and European Union standards.
As an EU member, Poland fully enforces Regulation (EC) No 261/2004.
- Delays: If a flight is delayed by more than 2 hours (short-haul), 3 hours (medium-haul), or 4 hours (long-haul), the airline must provide assistance (meals, communication, and hotel accommodation if necessary).
- Financial Compensation: In the event of delays exceeding 3 hours or cancellations not communicated 14 days in advance, passengers are entitled to compensation of €250, €400, or €600, depending on the flight distance.
- Denied Boarding: Should you be denied boarding due to *overbooking*, passengers are entitled to assistance, a refund or re-routing, and mandatory compensation.
*Note: The Polish ULC has a dedicated portal for passenger complaints that have not been resolved directly with the airlines.*
There is no federal Polish law dictating baggage limits, as this is a free-market matter regulated by the airline's conditions of carriage.
- Carry-on Baggage: Airlines are required to clearly state dimensions and weight limits prior to purchase.
- Checked Baggage: Fare policies are at the carrier's discretion. However, in accordance with EU guidelines, any security-related or essential items (wheelchairs, medical equipment) must be transported free of charge if required, provided they comply with safety standards.
The entry of pets (dogs, cats, ferrets) into Poland follows European Union veterinary regulations (Regulation EU 576/2013):
- Microchip: Mandatory identification.
- Rabies Vaccination: Must be administered after the microchipping process.
- EU Pet Passport: For travelers from the EU, or an Official Veterinary Health Certificate for travelers from non-EU countries (issued by an official veterinarian).
- Quarantine: Generally not required if all documents are in compliance.
- Transport: The transport of animals in the cabin or cargo hold is regulated by IATA standards, with costs determined by the carrier.
- Minors: Individuals under 18 traveling alone or with third parties must carry a declaration of consent signed by parents or legal guardians, which should be notarized or accompanied by a sworn translation (especially if the surname differs or if the minor does not hold their own EU passport).
- Accessibility: Polish airports provide priority "Family Lanes" for families with small children in security screening areas.
Poland complies with Regulation (EC) No 1107/2006 regarding the rights of persons with disabilities or reduced mobility (PRM).
- Free Assistance: Passengers with reduced mobility are entitled to free assistance at Polish airports, provided the service is requested from the airline at least 48 hours in advance.
- Infrastructure: All major airports are equipped with ramps, elevators, and tactile signage in accordance with European technical standards.
- Documentation: Passport with a minimum validity of 3 months beyond the intended date of departure from the Schengen Area.
- ETIAS (European Travel Information and Authorization System): Starting in 2026, visa-exempt travelers entering the Schengen zone (such as citizens of Brazil and the USA) must obtain an ETIAS electronic authorization before boarding. The fee is €7 (for travelers aged 18 to 70) and is valid for 3 years or until the passport expires.
- Visas: Brazilian citizens remain exempt from tourism visas for stays of up to 90 days within any 180-day period.
